I grew up being taught "Mitakuye Oyasin," which means that we are all related. I've been taught that every entity in the universe is connected and whatever happens near or far affects us all.

what a beautiful thought. all evil would vanish if human beings nurtured this noble thought. we would only be thinking of doing good to each other and never be selfish in our thought or action, instead of finding pleasure/satisfaction in accumulating money and lifeless things, real pleasure would be derived in sharing and giving. those who follow the maxim of 'do unto others as you would like them to do' lead a fuller life whereas greed guides the majority to misery, distrust,crime and everything else that is evil.

Yes, I do agree. Maybe you have considered that if you do something, either good or bad, for somebody in your life you would face such that you did for him. It is called Karma Rule which means: Everything returns back to you again.
