you probably should give it a rest, the biggest enemy of a laptop is heat, most only have one little fan on the side, the longer that runs, the more dust it gets, good maintanance will help extend its life.

Why keep it on all the time and just waste electricity (and produce more greenhouse gases as well)? The sleep and hibernate functions are there for a purpose.
