Political Flop of the Decade, YES.
As a parent, that is in the eyes of the society, and in my eyes, calling him a failure is too light of a word for how he has silver spoon fed his son and then releasing him on the public.
And isn't it interesting how all the Liberals try to defend him anyway by trying to compare Gore to Bush.....what a joke. Bush's daughters had fake I.D.'s. They were not driving HIGH on DOPE, DRIVING 100 miles an hour, and evading cops. Thank heavens he didn't plow someone over and kill them, then have to hear how "hard of a life it is being Gore's son" and crap.

It is sad indeed that Al couldn't take some time out of his life to raise his children to respect the laws, but then his son is doing what any ignored child does. Rebel. If good behavior is ignored, then bad behavior will surely get the job done. These kids don't do it intentionally, but they are hurting and so they are trying to hurt back.
So maybe Al and his son should go to family counseling, spend some time together doing some father/son activities like camping. Maybe Al needs to forget about trying to become the president again and just concentrate on cleaning up his own life before he tries to clean up the world. Why hang on to a political career when it's smeared with the Clinton presidency.

No. Parents usually do the best they can, and the child can still go out into the world and mess things up. On the other hand, terrible parents can have a child who does no wrong. It is a mistake to hold a parent responsible for something his/her adult child does.
Gore is not a political flop, by the way. He should have been president, except that the job was stolen by our current president. (You know him---the one with the approval ratings in the toilet.) Think about it---it was all left up to the state that had his brother in office as the governor. Pretty cozy.
Incidentally, both of Bush's daughters had brushes with the law and his niece was also arrested for a drug-related issue.

Quite frankly, you are out of line. Surprising since you are usually on my side of things.
Al Gore is a public figure, as is his wife and two of his daughters to a lesser extent. They've chosen that. His son is not. Leave his son alone and the family alone.
Millions of Americans struggle with problem children. That does not make them bad parents. Especially when Gore's other children seem to be doing well.

I guess HW Bush and W. Bush would also be failures. If every parent that had a kid caught with drugs was a failure, then there would be quite a lot of failures. That would probably include a whole lot of Republicans as well as Democrats. What are your kids doing, right now?

Should the sins of the son be visited on the father?
The son is an adult and is responsible for his own actions.
Besides, a child making mistakes doesn't make a parent an utter and complete failure - all kids make mistakes, and drug possession and speeding are some of the most common mistakes that young people make. I think "failure" is far too harsh a term here.

Gore won the popular vote in 2000; the presidency was taken away by maneuvering on the Bush side and the Supreme Court. As for his kid, he's 24. People do a lot of stupid things in their teens and their 20's. I don't see how Gore is responsible for that any more than Dubya is responsible for having a couple of daughters who enjoy acting like drunken skanks.

There are "failures as parents" on both sides of the aisle. All it proves is that people have common problems. And that necons like you dont understand human nature.
Failure as a politician? He's the most qualified person to be president. PERIOD. You, on the other hand, have adopted the age old neocon philosophy that allows you to refer to ignorant rhetoric in lieu of facts. So you have no credibility whatsoever. And you actually enjoy knowing that.

I find it sad really. Aside from being a liar and a cheat, now America knows you failed as a parent.
Wait a minute, its not algores fault, he is a victim of a vast right wing conspiracy.
