I have a 512 k ram now and want to upgrade it I have an open slot for it beside my other one so I need to know what to get I use the copmuter for music downloads and surfing the net pretty much

go to crucial.com and have their program detect ur memory and get more of that or look up your mobo specs and take out the old sticks and get more of the best ur board will take

You could always fill the other slot with a 1 gig (equivalent to two of those 512s) for a total of 1.5 gig.

When that memory goes on sale you could pull the old 512 and get two of those 1 gigs for really better performance (ttoal of 2 gig).

Competition for memory will not be an issue after that upgrade but you still might be limited by CPU speed and modem speed.

Another 512 stick would work wonders for you.
Do this: got to www.crucial.com
That site can run a test for you and tell you what your machine can take, wether your machine can hold up to 2GB, or only another 512...it's simple and takes less than five minutes with dial-up. Any RAM that they recommend is guaranteed to work or your money back, and their prices are very competitive.

You need a new computer, that's what I think.

Obviously, the 512K RAM is not on the computer you asked this question on or I'm crazy.
