You all keep calling people stupid for saying "duh 4 weeks in a month"....But if that were true you'd be saying that every month only has 28 days (7x4=28)..Which is completely untrue...
Therefore 9 months would be 4x9=36 and there are not just 36 weeks in a pregnancy..Please correct me if I am wrong..
But everyone stop being so arrogant to the people just asking a freaking question!

don't worry...no one was being rude to me, but I just came across a post asking how many months she was, and I was very upset with how rude everyone was to her.

haha.. well said.. my pregnancy lasted almost 41 weeks! PPL are dumb when they think its ONLY 36... at 36 the baby is mature enough to come out, but, the average pregnancy is 36-40 weeks...

You have made the same observation that a lot of pregnant women make early on. A pregnancy lasts 9 calander months, yes, all of which have different amounts of weeks in them. A lunar month is 28 days, or four weeks, and there are ten lunar months in a pregnancy. Because calander months have only a few more days than a lunar month, most people just round it down and say a month is four weeks long, but its more like four and a half. A lot of women are really confused by this innitially, but eventually it will make perfect sense. I read a good explaination of it in What to Expect When You're Expecting, but theres an explaination in just about every pregnancy book I pick up. I'm addicted to pregnancy books.

There are 4 weeks in a month, but there are enough days left over for an extra week every 3 months. So 3 months have 13 weeks, not 12 weeks. So 9 months have 39 weeks.

Ok, I know it's confusing but the doctors do go by 4 week months.... There are 40 weeks in pregnancy so, you are actually pregnant for 10 months. I asked my OB about this because I was confused also. It's just the way the medical industry does it. Sorry for those being rude to you... Just remember misery loves company! I've noticed a lot of miserable people on here, don't let it get to you.
Very Best Wishes!

they thing is they only count the full weeks =) they forget bout the 3 day or 2 day weeks at the end or beginning of the month... i hate whn people are rude "ur nt alone lol" but there is roughly (9divided1/2= 4.5x30=135 4.5x31=139) so there is 274 days in a pregnancy 274divided7=39.14weeks-4=9.8months of pregnancy =) hope tht doesnt confuse u but ur right. "sadly im 14"

LOL! I love your question! I so completely agree! I can never get a logical answer to this question. The way I figure it I'm due Oct. 27. Last Friday was the 27th, I'm due in 3 months so I must be 6 months pregnant. Right or wrong, that's my method and the answer I go with if anyone asks me!!
Best of luck to you and congrats on your pregnancy!!!

Surely it is easier just to do a quick calculation for months is to divide it by 4. Otherwise we would be taught pregnancy calendar months at school as well??? I have not seen in any of my pregnancy books anyone refering to 31 days in a month hence they say you will be pregnant for 40 weeks (10 months - 40 divided by 4 = 10). However, due to 'most' women ovulating 14 days after LMP most women give birth at 38 weeks. No one was being intentionally arrogant or rude.

wowzer yer mad huh. haha some months have a few extra days in the month like July is 4 weeks and 3 days. take all those months that have a few extra days and it add ups to 4 extra weeks. thats why a pregnancy is any where between 36 and 40 weeks.
