You probably need to empty the recycling bin, for one thing.

Also, it's not just software that clogs up your hard drive. Music, movies, photos, etc. all take up space on your hard drive.

Try deleting some of your media files, and the available space should return.

You can also use directory tree software (search the web) to pinpoint what files are taking up the most space, and where they are located.

When you remove programs, you are only uninstalling the actual program files-- not the data files that they use/generate. For example, you can uninstall a music player program that only takes up 10MB -- but the 20GBs of mp3 files it used to play are still on your hard drive. And data files, like (and especially) music, video, and pictures, can take up a LOT of space -- usually way more than the programs that run them.

Also, programs and data files aren't the only things taking up space on your hard drive; space is also used by your operating system, and probably (in WinXP) by your "page file," which is a chunk of space on your hard drive that the system uses (kind of like) RAM memory.

So if you want to clear up space on your PC, find out what's taking up the most space. Lots of mp3s?: delete or move onto a CD songs you don't listen to. Same with pics and video. Also, the "temp" file of your browser can get HUGE; but, if you're a novice user, I wouldn't suggest trying to empty it yourself.

And, with space that tight, once you've cleared space, try defragmenting your drive. In your Start menu (for WinXP), go to Programs - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter. Your system might need it after being clogged up.

You probably have filled up most of your disk.

Disks are often on sale with another 120 gig selling for about $80 recently. That would give you enough storage space that you don't have to make painful deletions.

Removing programs won't free up your space much unless those programs are really huge like World of Warcraft game.

The best way to free up your space is to use Disk Cleanup Wizard.

here is how, just click the link below.

Maybe its because the software you've deleted is too small and you need to delete more things to make a difference.

Get rid of every thing you don't use, then use disc clean up,then de-frag.
