When i was sixteen years old i was hanging out in plainfield new jersey, with an old friend of mine named sam, he was eighteen, from a broken home and in a really rough spot in his life. out of frustration, ignorance and greed he decided to rob a local grocery. he was armed with nothing other than an eleven inch buck knife. when the police showed up i ran into the store but the cops knocked me out of the way. sam saw the cops, turned facing them and was told to drop the knife. he began to lean down to drop it, when he quickly spun around and began to run. he made it about three feet when one of the five policemen opened fire. according to the police report, sam was attempting to throw the knife when the cop fired a warning shot that hit him in back. i know the truth, the cop aimed at his legs, missed and shot him in the spine. what radical changes must we make to end these injustices? who will police the police? how will we end this tyrannical police state?

Ok, put yourself in the cops shoes. You have to make SPLIT-SECOND decisions when you are out in the field. So the cop just got the call that there is an ARMED robbery. His adrenaline gets pumping, and he rushes to the crime scene. He is confused a bit as he enters the store, because he doesn't know who is the robber. He focuses on this druggy friend of yours and sees the knife. The cop tells him to stop and he makes a break for it, obviously raising his knife hand as he starts pumping his arm to run. If the knife hand is in the air, isn't that like he is about to throw it? I'm sure this cop feels terrible about the incident, but thats life. You need to realize your friend committed a crime and yes, acted really stupid. And often being stupid can get you killed or hurt.

The police have internal affairs divisions to police the police, and in no way does this describe a police state. Sorry about your friend, maybe you shouldn't have let him rob the store.

Take away big knives from moronic kids. You have to be a special kind of stupid to try to run while holding a weapon and surrounded by cops with their guns pulled. I am glad this guy is out of the gene pool.

Your friend rolled the dice and got what he got. It wasn't injustice that he was shot after all, he threatened someone with a knife.
