What is hot? if under 212 then is fine, if above check your thermostat, in fact pull it out if it then runs fine that is your problem if still hot would check the water pump. Before all check the fluid level.

Just running hot, or overheating? New motors will put out more heat during the first few hundred miles. If the motor is BRAND NEW, like I mean had absolutely zero miles on it before you started it the first time, some extra heat is normal during the break-in process. There is a bunch of friction inside a motor, and when mating surfaces are different shapes, they have to 'seat' to one another.

If your motor was already broken in, then it shouldn't be overheating, and you need to make sure your cooling system is working properly.

If you live in a warm climate area, you can think about switching the thermostat to a cooler one. If you live in a cool climate area, don't change it or it'll run too cold in the winter time.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

did you bleed the air out of the block. this is real critical of a new engine. you should unhook the top radiator hose from the radiator and fill the motor with water till it flows out the radiator top. if you get any air in especially a new motor it can cause lot's of problems mainly scuffed pistons. all the tolerances are really tight. also it's bad to idle a new engine. it will ruin the cam because it needs about 2000 rpm to break it in correctly. make sure your cooling system is running right and you have no air pockets and don't let it idle. Ive seen many new engines ruined this way. if you have to pull the thermostat out for now. put it back in in a few days when your sure the motor has been ran a little. good luck

new motors run hot at first due to the tight clearences of the cam bearing/rod main make sure you have at least a 3 core radiator factorys suck and have been plugged a 185 degree thermostat a real temp gauge not an idiot light and remember to change the oil often on your new motor because you will get break in shavings on the bearings/rings timing plays a big part if your to far advanced =valves opening sooner that will make a engine run hot and of course as mentioned bleed the system to get the air bubbles out

Who knows what year this went in. Did you check your fan clutch..yes your fan will still spin if it is not working properly. I agree if you didnt replace the water pump you should def check that. I am assuming though that the old motor didnt overheat or run hot so, i would also have to agree since it is new it will run hotter in the "breakin" period. I say do the breakin period with conventional oil and then switch to synthectic afterwards, but that is my opinion.

It could be as simple as your fans not kicking in - drive round the block, stop and then have a listen. If you can't hear them then it's probably just a switch that needs replacing. However, if you are over heating, and the thermostat goes actually in to the red, you've got problems. Check your water - are you constantly having to re-fill? How's your oil looking? If it's black it's fine, but check that it isn't low and it doesn't have any white/creamy colour in it. Also, check your head gasket. If that has creamy white gunk in the top then that's your oil mixing with your water and you have a head gasket out. Get that fixed asap before it wrecks your entire car. Good luck xx
