My 2004 Kia Rio is in the shop since it will barely drive. The mechanic believes that the catalytic converter might be broken, and will verify in the morning. Does anyone know if the replacement of the part would be covered under warranty? I am the original owner.

All emissions are convered under Federal Emissions warranty for 8 years/80K miles (which ever comes first), if your beyond those numbers then typically it's not covered under warranty.

ben45750, if you read the documentation after you perform your google search, you will see that on page 3 of the pdf, that emission components are only warrantied for 8 years/80K not Kia's 10 year/100K. Kia's 10 year/100K only covers the powertrain. Please read your own answer before calling other people stupid.

If you still have the manual,It should have a phone # to call and find out you might have to take it to the Kia dealership.

Cats are supposed to have a federal 100k warrantee on them, but you will play hell trying to get a dealer to fix it for free. If they won't, try an aftermarket exhaust shop for an estimate.

Kia has a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on their cars anyways, so it's covered. These stupid people don't know anything.

Just use Google people!!!!! duh!
