Can't Black people and White people get along? No racism? Or stereotypes?

Generally speaking, I agree with you. There is more racial tension among blacks and whites than any other race. I have no beef with any race. I only look at a person as an individual and not their race.

I think we have made great strides on the racism front, but it also cannot be denied that it still exists. I have always wondered what are the contributing factors with racism. Mainly, is it learned behavior? Or is it developed? Unfortunately I cannot answer that question. I am an argument against learned behavior. The reason I say this is because many in my family were openly racist when I was a child, but I did not develope that behavior myself. So am I the exception, or the rule? Doesn't matter either way because no matter the reason I am glad I escaped that curse.

I believe that the answers to eradicating racism are tolerance and education. Education in the respect that we really are all brothers and sisters under the skin. As for tolerance, I think it is growing and will continue to do as many more minorities continue to take their rightful place in society. As exposure to other races and cultures grows, so to will tolerance and acceptance grow.

You always post good questions. I really wish everyone could get along. It will take a lot of work for it to happen for some people. At least with us there is a good start. It seems to be improving a little over time, but its not good enough.

Semper Fi ; that sure would be nice and i pray that will happen one day,I have seen with my own eyes little mixed race kids putting gob;s of vasoline on their beautiful curly hair; trying to get it straght,I asked my neighbors son; honey why you got all that vasoline on your hair? His reply was so kids quit calling me nappy or curly head,This is a mostly white schoo lhe has to go to as they live out of the line about 1 block.I always tell him how i wished i had that beautiful curly hair; as mine is blond and thin; and straght,Why do kids have to learn racism from their parents or their peers?Hopefully my son;s kids ;will have it a little easier but that;s a while yet as my son is only 10ys old now.....

Now I'm just playing Devils advocate here.
Honestly, not a bigot bone in my body.
BUT,
Could entity's such as the N.A.A.C.P have anything to do with it?

I mean, I'm just throwing out the idea, that as long as one race, continues to segregate themselves, they are going to indeed create a community that is separated.

It's up to us. The beat generation, and generation X'rs. But, now we're allowing ourselves to find other issues to hate on.
It's all a vicious cycle.

My children are certainly being raised void of making value judgments about people based on their skin color, their sexuality and their religion (or lack thereof) But they are also subjected to going to school, and come home wondering why their black friends are comfortable calling each other the N word.
How the hell am i suppose to overcome that?

I just have to keep remembering the words a wise man named Moses once scribed..
"Train up the child in the way he should be, and when he old, he will not part from it"

Because in the end, the ONLY thing we will have taught our children; is HOW to parent.

I am buying a pet for myself and I've looked to many people and their offers. I immediatiatly liked the lady on the phone today for we have the same interest. I trust her and will see her tomorrow. I feel she is most qualified and I like how she handled the sale. She is black and I am white (it doesn't matter to me).
Racist are a little on the dumn side.

as the saying goes "old habits die hard" this hatred has lasted this long so it's going to be damn hard to dig out. let it take another 500 if need be 'cause things are changing right here right now the way thing have always changed, one person at a time. you and i may never see that day but i've found in life you walk away with what you can and the way i see it is at least you and i can eat at the same table, it's a small victory but it counts none the less

I get along fine with both white and black people (and myriad ethnicities) at work, and my relatively small circle of friends includes both, as well.

The only white & black people I see /not/ getting along are political leaders.

Do you think maybe "somebody" keeps stirring the pot?
Have you ever wondered whether or not there might be someone out there, somewhere, who stands to gain by keeping blacks and whites at each other's throats?
Who? Why? And most of all...what might anyone have to gain?
I think there is someone, personally...and, if you think about it hard enough, Semper, I'll bet you'll figure it out, too.

It's only half a century since the Supreme Court decided we could go to the same schools. Some of the people who opposed that action are still alive. And they've taught their hate to their children, who are about our age by now.
