We moved in to a home for rent on 4/1/07. I just found out today that the homeowner wants to put the house up on the market only 4 months in to us living here. Is that legal? We signed a 1 year lease agreement and live in California. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sure. But you will have "tenant rights" meaning the new owners have to honor your lease.

Yes. But the new owner must abide by the lease. If it is a fixed year lease they cannot raise your rent during the term of the lease or end the contract. If it is a month-to-month lease they can up the rent or end the lease contract. Consult your landlord/tenant law in your state to be sure. Just google "Landlord tenant law (your state)".

Yes, it is certainly legal. The landlord is expected to use courtesy and common sense in allowing showings of your property to prospective purchasers. In California, there are several ways to provide such notice. Showings should be scheduled only during 'normal business hours', about 8:30AM to 5:30PM, Monday thru Friday.

However, do remember that you only leased the premises. You didn't get the landlord in the deal, and he is free to sell his property as desired.

need to read the lease, but if it said they do not need to notify you more than 30 days, then they probably won't notify you till they have a buyer sign. after that it usuallym takes about 30 days to close. If I were you i'd just start looking at places and see what other places are available and the costs, to prepare just in case it is sold to someone who doesnn't want to continue with renters.

yes it is legal, the new owners will have to honor your lease until it terminates

side note: do not let them place a lock box on the place, all showings must be with the proper 24 notice, no open houses, you do not have to leave during a showing, be tough on showing weekends

Of course he can...it's his house. If he finds a buyer he'll give you a "notice to quit" which is legalese for "get the hell out".
