We currently live in Southampton and Im after somewhere we can go for the day and have breakfast etc on the train, any ideas how I would go about booking this?

Go for it and what a lovely idea. You could start a new trend and find all of us wearing a Yahoo t-shirt on the flying Scotsman

Go to the railway station and take any long-distance train, you need not stay on it long distance, but those are the trains that have a dining car attached.
Go to the information office of the railway station.

Eating on old steam trains is a real treat. Not sure if this route I've just found still operates, but it might be worth a look, as it calls at Southampton.
