Im really getting into this genre of music.

I guess its grunge or no wave or whatever.. Its amazing to find all these sub-genres of music. I didnt even know something like "No Wave" existed.

Are thier any other bands like the ones I listed in my question that are similiar or come from the same era?

Safe to say I think we all know what grunge is, so I'll just forget about it. No Wave didn't last very long other than the late 70's-early 80's. Doesn't appear to have been anywhere else other than NYC. These No Wave bands are likely closer to Sonic Youth than Nirvana.

Lydia Lunch - a real character, sort of the female Henry Rollins
Teenage Jesus & the Jerks - Lydia's old band
Glenn Branca - major influence on Sonic Youth
Rhys Chatham - major influence on Band of Susans
The Birthday Party

If you like Sonic Youth's older No Wave stuff, you should definately check out the first two Velvet Underground albums. (Velvet Underground & Neco, and White Light/White Heat.)

These albums inspired the first wave of punk and their use of feedback and harsh noises were also a very major influence on the No Wave/Noise Rock artists later on.

For a good introduction to some of the major players in the No Wave scene, you should also check out a CD compilation called No New York, or New York No Wave. It features such acts as Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, who were a direct influence on early Sonic Youth.

For some modern No Wave action, check out Abe Vigoda, Ex Models & Shoplifting. Also, while not a No Wave band, try Deerhunter, who play an amazing mix of drone, meets Sonic Youth style punk. Kind of like Joy Division meets early Sonic Youth.

Slightly off the No Wave genre, check out Dinosaur Jr. Their album You're Living All Over Me came out around the same time as Sonic Youth's album Daydream Nation, and the two albums are so closely linked in their sound structure, and the fact that they both inspired a little band known as Nirvana.

Have fun, and enjoy!

lovnrckets post is correct on the NYC "No Wave" scene.

Bush Tetras
Suicide
Mars

These bands are really all quite different and do not have a similar sound like most grunge bands have. No Wave music belonged to no fixed style or genre. Bands like Nirvana took some influences from these artists.

well, theres two types of grunge. post-grunge and grunge. Post Grunge is not as raw and doesn't have as much of a "grimy" tone to it. Grunge is well, like Nirvana and stuff like that.

Grunge Bands:
Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
Stone Temple Pilots
Pearl Jam
Sound Garden
Mud honey
Alice In Chains
Our Lady Peace
Sonic Youth

Post Grunge:
NickelBack
Daughtry
Collective Soul
Seether
Hinder
Alien Ant Farm
Creed
Stone Sour
Finger Eleven
Rushford

theres more those are just the ones i could think of from the top of my head.

Nirvana was what it was, but I definitely never thought that they were the best of the genre. I never got into Sonic Youth.

I liked
Soundgarden
Alice In Chains
Screaming Trees
Mother Love Bone ( the band that was to become Pearl Jam before they singer died and they got the man who can only sing one note Eddie Vedder )
