...by terminal security personnel and asked for "gifts".
The last time I was there while traversing one of the SEVEN security checkpoints on the way to the gate, a security guard who i greeted in tagalog, patted me down and my wallet, peered in then asked for a "pasalubong" while sticking out his hand complete with a grin. It has happened before but somehow I think I reached my limit on this unethical practice.

What are your thoughts on all this? At the very least, extremely unprofessional behavior.

This is a fake. It is easy to spot that the story is made up: If you are on your way to departure (thus, leaving the country) , you will not be asked for a pasalubong. A pasalubong is something you bring in as you arrive, not as you leave.

I travel a lot, too. I have NEVER been asked for anything by any of the airport staff. Please refrain from fabricating lies about your host country. You can be declared persona non grata if you are found, in case you did not know.

In this case, I agree with you. Yes, it happened to me!

One was before I left the Philippines year 2002. The officer in the immigration desk told me that my paper was incomplete which was not true as I believed I had everything needed. After the "negotiation", they allowed me to fly the next day.

Onother incident was when I arrived in Manila in 2004 and was about to leave the airport. The lady porter came to me and took my baggage without asking me and run fast. When I caught her, she started to ask for a cash. She even mention "even it's only 10 USD". I looked at her and just ignored what she said, got my baggage back and left. Sorry, that doesn't work for me!

I vote this a fake.

I have been through terminal 1 and 2 many times.

The Philippine people have too much pride to allow this to go on at the airport. Yes, this type of thing happens in the Philippines from time to time, but it would not happen at the airport. This is too much risk of shame.

Very unprofessional and you should have reported it to authorities or send a bloody letter to the newspapers with his name. These greedy b*st*rds who wants to earn quick money in crooked ways. I have not been a victim myself but i have heard similar stories while going in and out of these checkpoints. You will be amazed if you knew how much they actually ask as "lagay" from gullible people leaving out of the country even with proper documents.

Never. It's probably only happened to you because you:
a) are fabricating the story
b) are too annoying NOT to be accosted
