He was overrated in the MLS but as to how much I don't know because he did have limited playing time while he was at DC United. Benfica is a much better team than Real Salt Lake is. Adu played great in the U-20 World Cup but has not played very well for Salt Lake and doesn't have much to show for there. He played better when he was with DC United. Salt Lake isn't a good team for him and I hope that he does better with Benfica. People who say Adu sucks are just full of cr@p! He is a talented player and I hope he shows this at Benfica and I think he will improve while he is there. I hope that he does well there and eventually moves to a bigger European Club. I'd like to see him playing for one of the top European clubs someday. Unitil that happens, if it does, I want to wish him the best of luck at Benfica.

I believe Freddy Adu going to benfica will improve his game and also gain attention of top clubs from all over europe.... i happen to pay attention to the portuguese league (after all i am portuguese) and benfica is one of the teams with most history throughout europe, so from moving from Utah to Lisbon freddy adu will become more of an elite player

Freddy Adu is nowhere near the best young player in the world. For god sakes Jozi Altidore played his position for the US because Adu is garbage and Altidore is younger and we all saw how bad Altidore was in the World Cup.

He will be in really deep with that club and in that league, but he might as well try the big show. Remember, he was going to be what David Beckham was brought over to do - be the player to drive MLS to major status in the U.S. He was never going to be that player.

I think he will get pretty good, but he will never be compared to Carlos Vela or Gio.

He will be a mediocre player at best.
