Landry is a fave. but 6foot2 midget, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice were not considered to be great when they came into the NFL, they became great after Bill Walsh molded them into what they were. Do ya homework.

Lots of great answers, but I'm going to go with Bill Walsh. He faced the ultimate challenge: Take a loosing team and take it to the super bowl. He inherited a 49ers team that had only won 2 games in the last year, and in three years built not only a team that could win a Super Bowl, but a dynasty that is arguably the best in NFL history. He discovered Joe Montana, and took Steve Young from obscurity to the Hall of Fame. He had the vision to draft a little known receiver named Jerry Rice and help him become the best player in that position not only for that year, or for a few years, but for all time.
And though the West Coast Offense is getting a little dated, it ruled football for around twenty years and is still used to some extent by many teams.
RIP Coach Walsh, you'll be missed.

Yes, they named the trophy after Lombardi...he happened to be around when they came up with a Super Bowl trophy...but, no coach in the history of the game has been as influential in NFL offensive strategies as Walsh. Most NFL teams use a variation of Walsh's West Coast Offense. His offensive theory has become the defacto standard in the league. Lombardi was never as important to the rest of the league as Walsh was. Walsh changed the way the game was played, Lombardi didn't.

The best coach hasn't yet been found. Why? Well the best coach of all time would be the one to bring Detroit to a Super Bowl...
No, seriously...I'd have to say John Madden...annoying game caller, great coach.
