They do really work for the most part. I am not sure I would say that 10 years ago.

Police depts have no issue with arresting someone for violation of the order. What becomes hard for the police is that much of the time those who get protective orders let those who are doing the battering, or threatening back, violating the order and thus leaving the police in a position that they will no longer enforce it!

I guess the difference in whether it works are not is two-fold: your police dept and you!

As far as their address, I am not sure as most often for an order to be enforceable they need to be served!

There is no cons unless you are a weak victim who continually allows violent people into your live, or back into your life! In many of the cases I have seen the biggest losers are the children if you are talking about a husband, step-father or boyfriend!

Protective orders are only as good as YOU make them. If you follow the parameters of the order by not giving in (like most victims do) then the police will enforce what the judge has put into place, however if you invite him over or if the evidence shows that you are making contact with him then the order will be voided and the chances of getting it reinstated is slim.

If memory serves correct you don't need an address just a first and last name to file an order of protection.

Protective orders do work if you want them to work, if you have a protective order on someone and they are in your area all you do is call the police and they will come and handle it but usually when someone recieves one they know to leave the other person alone

It's a piece of paper. It works in the sense that if this person is caught within so many feet of you, they will be jailed. It's not like it's a body guard that can physically protect you. It's a court order.
(You know, like a speeding ticket.)

they are better then restraining orders.. police seem to take them more seriously. Just go to your local police department and ask to speak to a detective about filing a PO and they will be able to get all the information they need.. its not your job... if you have a problem with someone that is putting you in danger they will help.
