Despite what Ponce de Leon thought, death is inevitable. Old people die everyday. Bill was a great coach but he was also an old man.

Bill Walsh. What a great coach and innovator. Great eye for players and coaches. He really help to bring the game to a whole new level. And in interview he really seemed like a genuinely good guy. Football has lost an all-time great. This is a sad day for the hardcore NFL fan.
It's not what we take with us but what we leave behind when we go. Walsh's footstep are imprinted on the bulwark of the National Football League forever.

Truly a sad day for the 49ers and the NFL. True class act as a coach and a person!! Some current players and coaches need to learn a lesson from Bill Walsh on how to conduct themselves professionally as Walsh did his entire career!!

I'm kinda sad. I'm not one to get upset when someone I don't know personaly dies but, I'm a huge 49er fan and he was the man. He led the 49ers to three superbowl wins. He made that franchise great. He was one of the best coaches of all time and I think football, as a whole, will miss him for that.

I just heard that before reading this question and I am shocked. I read he has been battling leukemia for a while, but he always looked fine to me, this came as a big surprise, very sad.

Sad. He was the Paul Brown of his day, a real innovator who knew how to build a winner.

Kind of sad. Didn't realize he was that sick. They didn't have much in the news that he was that ill. He was a real gentleman. Can truly say he never did anyone dirty.
