Florida is overcrowded in the summer due to the US schools almost all being out of session from June till August or September. September and early October is the end of the hurricane season. Winter you see a lot of people migrate in from the northern US and Canada to escape the winter cold and snow. March has the influx of college and older high school students for spring school holidays.
I would say the best time is April and May, the weather is warm but not too hot, the crowds are down and you can get around easier.

We prefer to travel there End of November / Early December. Mostly because the hurricane season is over but also because the weather is still nice and warm. Not hot,but comfortable all the same.
You get to experience some of the Christmas build up at the parks, without the crush that comes when the US children have finished at school.
Word of warning though, end of November is Thanksgiving and the airport / car hire / parks can all get very busy!

August tends to be quite wet (but still very warm), and there is an increased risk of hurricanes. We actually found August better than Easter because we found it too hot and humid in April. Also, the US kids' school term times are different to the UK. They seem to have their summer holidays from around end of May to beginning of August.

The best time to visit Florida is probably in late October/early November. Hurricane season is over and the blistering heat has mostly subsided.

it I'd recommend late September / early October. Went this year in June and was too hot and too busy. Sept / Oct when we went in 2005 was just right weather wise and there was no queues in any of the Parks. Moreover the flights are less crowded - more room for 8 hours and 50 minutes.

I went to Orlando in May before the summer rush and it was warm but not devestatingly hot yet, there were plenty of hotel availability, and we did all four Disney parks with no crowds.
