By calling a local university, asking for the performing arts department, and asking for names of good acting agents.
Or by talking to friends who act and like their agents, if they have one.

You have to be worth representing. That means you have to be very very good and very very good looking. You find an agent by submitting a headshot and resume. They look at your headshot and if you are terrific looking, they look at your resume to see if you have ever done anything except school theatre. If they think you might be able to act, they call you in for an interview and audition. If they don't like your looks, they throw your stuff out. Actually, you see the agent finds the client by looking through the thousands of applications they get.

Hi,
this is what I did: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html .
Before you do those things though, you should be trained. Remember that an agent will want to work with you only if he/she thinks you will get work. It's not only about the look, it's about your talent, which weighs more heavily. So if you haven't started studying yet, that should be your first priority and not the other way around.
Good luck!

By referral from actor friends who are happy with their agent.
Or as I always, say, call the University in the city where you live and ask someone in the Theater Department!
Agents go to the theater to find new actors.
When you are performing in a show mail your headshot/resume to the office and invite him/her to your production.

The contact info is readily available. Getting a contract with one is probably not going to happen for you. They only sign people that they feel they can make money with. They get tons of submissions and they throw most of them out after a quick glance.
