It is not illegal to protest the war. While there are people who believe that the President has somehow made it illegal to protest, that is just not true.

Protesters have a first amendment right to assemble and protest peacefully. If they get unruly, however, they may be detained for disturbing the peace, or inciting violence.

Your friend is either an idiot or hung up on rhetoric.

It's not illegal to protest the war. It is illegal (whatever you protest) to destroy or vandalize property, block traffic, injure other people, or, in many instances, protest without a permit. (Remember, under the 1st Amendment, the government cannot regulate the content of speech, but it can regulate its time, place, and manner.)

Well of course you can protest. Just don't do it in front of any white house staff member, federal building, or place of national interest, which may draw media attention to yourself.

Somehow or another, that is now considered aiding the enemy.

I think you can still walk past your local Mayors office with a really angry look on your face, but I would do a little research on that first, just in case you're not crazy about a family trip to Cuba.

Protesting peacefully is a right granted in the bill of rights, it is not illegal. If a protest becomes violent or out of control, then the police can and will intervene.

It didn't... Protesting the war would be an example of free speech. You just can't get carried away and get violent about it, or that would be illegal...

It might be how you protest.

The police can shut down any protest on the flimsiest of reasons. You could protest cruelty to Dandelions and the police could shut you down for conspiracy to riot if you're just a teensy too loud.

You may have people whine about it not being patriotic, but it's not illegal. Those people usually are not serving in the military. Never heard of the 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights?

It is not true. If it were, they'd arrest the protesters that stand outside the capital in my town, and all us liberal bloggers would be in jail. Your friend is either pulling your chain, is paranoid, or is an idiot. Take your pick.

Heck no it is not illegal. But you can get arrested at a protest for things other than protesting, such as violence, trespassing, being stoned, etc.

LOL...It's not illegals to protest the war. If you start fund raising for the insurgents you will find yourself up to your butt in government alligators real quick like, but march and whine to your hearts content.
