Why do the dead come back as ghosts?

If an afterlife (i.e. heaven/hell) exists, why do the dead roam the earth after they’ve passed away? Is it a form of punishment stricken upon them by a higher power? Or do they choose to stay here out of their own need to carry out some unfinished business? Do they know that they’re dead? Also, can they choose where and whom they wish to visit?

They don't.

The souls of the dead don't hang around wailing and rattling chains; they move on, either to their next incarnation or to the next level of existence.

The phenomena most people see as 'ghosts' are psychic echoes, or 'recordings'. they're not sentient, anymore than a videotape is.

No the dead don't COME BACK as ghosts because if they were to come back(from the dead) they would be the undead therefore they would be zombies.

Nobody will really be able to TELL you if they exist or NOT that is something that you will most likely have to find out for yourself.

Why do ghosts exist though?
I have a few explanations..my personal beliefs

Human desire to explain the unexplained with something paranormal or supernatural

The bond or tie that the recently deceased experienced was so strong that the essence of their intentions was left behind making it take form in the presence of certain people who have the power to sense other people's energy or sentiments.

The bond was so strong that the people came as pure essence to come finish unfinished business in the world of the living..............they have yet to put their soul to rest therefore they are roaming around in unseen dimensions that lie within our own world...............different frequencies

This is all I can tell you as nobody really knows the all of the answers our current understandings are too unaccomplished to understand the existence of these creatures........

Are they in our imagination?

Are they just feelings people left behind?

Did they really become cursed to walk upon our lands?


These are just a few theories...........

One thing I am sure of though that this is one of the most debatable topics dealing with paranormal phenomena......this may remain unsolved(publicly) forever

Sometimes, a ghost remains because they have something to do before they can pass on. Sometimes, a horrible thing occured and they can not let go of it. Some ghosts know they are dead. Some have no idea and simply react the event over and over.

A haunting is usually tied to one place, and they are confined to that place. In rare occurances, a haunting is tied to a person and they can follow them regardless.

In some religions there are some spirits called attaching spirits. These spirits exist in one place, but when someone comes by they can attach to that person and try to make them act out their ghostly desires.

Many times they don't cross over right away to "heaven"...they may choose to hang on here to unfinished business or to look after loved ones, etc.

Depending on how they died depends on whether or not they know they're dead. In cases where they died unexpectedly/instantly and they are 'hit' out of their bodies they may not realize what has happened.

This sort of thing is usually (not always) accompanied by "hauntings" because they're there but they are screaming for help because they can see/sense you but everybody ignores them.

Yes, they can choose where, when and who they want to visit...in their dimension they can travel in less time than it takes to think it.

I have actually had occasions where my Angel (not human) would zip back and forth between me and somebody else 800 miles away while he (the somebody else) and I had a conversation and I was teaching him how to *hear* spirits, Angels, etc.

I guess they could choose to visit who they wish. But I think ghost are meant to carry out unfinished business and some ghost have no idea that they're dead so they simply keep going intill they realize it. I don't think of it as a form of punishment I think they choose to go back, to do whatever.

Those who have passed don't come back from anywhere. They essentially never left. While their physical form has passed, their essence remains trapped in our plane of existence. It has been speculated that those who pass in a traumatic way, pass away at a young age, or those who pass and are very connected to a specific place don't cross over. It has also been said that some people who have died are not aware of it on a conscious level, so they fail to transition. That's why ghosts are often referred to as earthbounds.

Look, the dead never come back to the living world as ghosts.
When somebody dies, his/her spirit comes out the body and then the spirit tries to find the way to the light.

There are spirits who can find the way easily, and they go to Heaven
There are other spirits who can't find the way, and they come to the living world as ghosts to ask for help.
There are also the spirits who doesn't want to go away, and then they are transformed into those spirits or ghosts that hurts human beings.

There are also some cases in which a spirit tries to come back to the living world because there's something bad going on.
Imagine that my grandmother has already passed the way, and here, with me, something is going bad or without control. If our relationship was strong, maybe she want to help me and my grandmother's spirit asks for permission to come with me and help me. She will not come as a ghost. Her spirit then is transformed into something that could help me, like a bird, a dog, a cat, etc.
With this new body, the spirit will try to help me, and when it completes its objective, the spirit will go away again.

It is not a punishment to be a ghost, there are kinds of ghosts, good ones, and bad ones. As I have already told you, the good ones are here to ask fo help, the bad ones, are here because they don't want to find the light, and they are always trying to hurt us.
When a spirit has not completed their business, they'll come as ghosts to ask for help to finish them and then go to the light.

The dead don't come back. The troubled Spirit of the dead haunt for a specific reason.They cannot choose their situation, it is something they have to do through circumstance. They don't come back, they never went.They have to be rescued by a Rescue Circle. This is a group of experienced Mediums, who can assist their "Going Over".

Ghosts are confused they never went therfor they dont come back. Maybe they never wanted to leave the earth i dont believe in ghosts but if i did this is what i would think
