Because everybody likes Dot and if they all had washing machines then Dot would be out of a job!
And they all spend every penny in the pub so have no money left to buy a washing machine! though this point is flawed because the money they spend on getting their washing done would buy them a washing machine after about 6 weeks!
Dont you think its funny that they all only have small bags of washing? If I didnt do any washing for a week I'd have about 4 black bags full, why dont they?

Because it sets up important scenes to be set in the Laundrette. If alll the characters had washing machines, every single meeting between characters would be in the "Queen Vic", therefore making the show quite stale and boring.

different than for no person having a bathing gadget, no person looks to cook dinner! how many human beings do you be responsive to who've breakfast up the line? How come Phill constantly has countless money? Why do the automobile mechanics never have oil and grease on them? you may desire to pass on perpetually. How come the regulations of the land never word to human beings in soaps? Soaps in basic terms are no longer lifelike.

that's it! I have to find out about this show, Eastenders...the questions are intriguing especially this one for folks not having a washing machine. (If they need for me to do their laundry, I will for a small fee :)

I've always wondered that they have everything else in their houses except that 1 thing lol.I think it's if they run out of storylines they just do a go to the laundrette and have a chat thing.

Exactly!!!! I have asked that question to myself on many an occasion...I think it is because it is a soap opera and they need another place where characters from the square can congregate and talk to each other....but it is a bit silly...not very realistic at all.

Because just like the pub...It's a meeting place.
They have a community centre now...so maybe the laundrette will close soon.
