"The meaning of life" can refer to two very different concepts:

1. It could be your question relates to our real purpose for existing. If that is what you mean, then your question presupposes a Creator. Here is the words of an eminent atheist on the subject:

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

So the answer here for meaning is to seek God.

2. It could be that your question refers not to purpose but to issues of self-worth. Perhaps you simply want to feel as if you have meaning/worth? When someone says that you should make your own meaning, they are referring to this self-worth issue and not real purpose. Feelings have no reality behind them, for example, you can probably just take a pill (Prozac?) to get happy feelings. This concept of "meaning of life" really would belong in the psychology section of YA.

So the answer in this case is to seek a psychologist.

The meaning of life is to live saintly and humbly and chastily and to ever love our heavenly father Almighty God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our death-bound body,

always doing a lot of charity unto others and renouncing all our worldly riches, and so spending all our eves praying at the local holy Church of Temple and humbly following all the teachings of our holy mother Church, and so humbly waiting on our holy sacramental death in order to be welcomed in yonder Paradise by an immense dazzling army of triumphing serafic Angels in the ever glowing nearness of our heavenly father Almighty God.

I am an atheist because I don't believe in deities and the word atheist describes this state of disbelief. I don't believe in deities because no argument or evidence presented to me in support of their existence has been convincing.

1. Biology adequately describes life and emotions without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

2. Astronomy adequately describes the formation of stars/planets/universe/etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

3. Geology adequately describes the evolution of the Earth, land formations, etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties

4. Psychology describes the human psyche better than appealing to mystical invisible dieties

5. Appealing to mystical invisible dieties is an appeal to ignorance

6. There's no physical evidence for the existence of mystical invisible dieties

7. A myriad of mystical invisible dieties have been posited by emphatically superstitious societies and have been proven to be products of overly active imaginations (today's religion is tomorrow's myth) and ignorance.

8. Believing in mystical invisible dieties seems to become quite absurd when those who posit the mystical invisible dieties begin explaining why and how they exist in the face of contradictory physical evidence.

9. As scientific knowledge increases, the role of the mystical invisible dieties oddly gets pushed further and further back.

10. Mystical invisible dieties are mystical invisible dieties (ie can never be found by empirical methods)

That should be enough to get you started.
