If you are wanting to break into acting, then you AREN'T looking for an agent. I'm assuming that you have no experience in acting. And if that's the case, then the first step to "breaking into acting" would be to get some experience. Before you can have an agent, you need a resume; and a resume is a list of experience you have. So, I would highly recommend theater as a place to get your start.
A lot of people will tell you that the first step is to get acting lessons. Well, if you suck at acting, then they are absolutely right. If not, then being in a few community theater productions will hone your acting talent naturally and gradually. Once you feel that you have enough experience (both on paper, and acting-wise), you can take the resume you have built and apply to an agency. The bottom line is agencies are not for beginners who have no experience. They are for actors who are looking to go to the next step in their acting career. Hope this helps and good luck!

Talent Agent?!?

Hi,

there are some phrases or sentences that don't go well together. Two of them are the ones you just wrote.

I'm ...trying to break into acting...AND...how do I get an agent. Between those two phrases should be another phrase, such as, "Where can I find a school so I can start to learn how to act?"

I'm being a bit sarcastic to make a point, but I mean it in good faith. You are not alone in this. Unless you can act, unless you are trained, it will be difficult to find an agent who will be interested in promoting you.

Go to class first! Get into a good school for a couple years. That should be your starting point.

Here's a question for you.

Which one of these two people do you think will have a better chance at becoming successful as an actor?

1) The person who decides one day that he wants to be an actor and says "I'll just go and try and get an agent."

Or

2) The person who decides one day that he wants to be an actor and says, "I'll go to school first, learn how to become an actor, practice a lot and then go get an agent."

Which one is the right answer?

Only time will tell.

Where do you live? THIS is the first question.

Start off with a commercial agent.....because TV is MUCH different than theater. This will get your foot in the door. Or do some modeling in the TV ads. Go to some shows with adults and kids in them and ask them after wards who their agent is........I have no idea where you live, if it's a town other than the majors, then that's what you'll have to do. Watch out for scams.

Unless you live in a large city, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles or New York, you may not have a Talent Agency in your city.
Ask your parents to help you find a Talent Agency.
