I was very disappointed when I saw the movie. I understand that they cannot add the whole book into the movie but they could have at least lengthened a little of the final battle. I was really looking forward to the statues coming to life and attacking people in the ministry of magic. Basically, it seems like they shortened the whole ending of the book.
I was also really looking forward to Kreacher and Dobby fighting. I understand that this is irrelevant but it would have been nice to see something of that sort rather than just seeing Kreacher for a whole three seconds. He is an important part of the last book and should have been introduced as so.
I think they could have taken out Dumbledor's Army a little bit. There were a lot of scenes of the kids learning magic but instead the director could have taken a little less out of these scenes and actual showed the kid's using these powers at the very end when they are fighting the death eaters.
Lastly, Sirius's death was a little weird. I felt no connection to it. It was more like and "Oh, did he just die?" I feel bad for people who actually didn't read the book because they see him fall into the veil but never really understand what the veil is about.
I would probably see it again though.

I don't know what book five you read, but I know that it was by far the worst book in the series (mainly due to poor editing and use of all caps basically every time harry talked). if you look at the movie as a separate entity and don't try to compare it to the book, it was great, although i agree that there were subplots that could have made the film, i don't know that any of them would have added enough for it to be worth the extra time which likely would decrease the number of people who saw the movie because longer than 3 hours would have scared them away. this was by far the best movie so far, and i look forward to seeing what the director can do with book six as he is the first to direct two films since columbus directed one and two.

I have to disagree with you!! I HATED the book.. I thought it was the worst ever Rowling had written. All the mood swings and even the story itself was plain annoying!! And this is coming from a huge harry potter fan! Hence I went to watch the movie with little expectations, since I'm not a fan of the movies and generally prefer the books, but was pleasantly surprised. I was, in fact, glad that a lot had been cut out from the movie! And the graphics were really cool too!!

I liked it, but I was also disappointed, because the book was one of my favorites. It didn't explain enough about the members of the Order, what the Order is, etc. And I think it left out some details that will be important, especially in the 7th movie. Like the mirrors Sirius and Harry had... that wasn't huge in the 5th, but it will be in the 7th.
Even though I liked it, I think they could have done better.

OOTP is the longest book and the shortest movie... right there you know that many of the small details that make the Harry Potter story so interesting won't be included.
I felt that watching the movie was like reading every 20th page of the book. You missed so much and it went by too fast.

I think it was the best movie yet. Although they did leave alot of the book out. Now I am just wondering how will they ever include all of the deathly hallows in a 2 1/2 hour movie. Here's hoping and waiting.

YES I agree, I hated the movie. Even Harry Potter movies should be able to stand on their own, and this one definitely can't. I was just like your friend, even though I DO read the books! They spent way too long concentrating on Umbridge, and not enough time making oh, I don't know, an actual plot?

I totally agree with you. It’s a great movie, but it wasn’t as great as I thought it'd be. Yes, they cant put everything in the book in it but I was still disappointed. One thing that really pissed me off was that the fountains didn’t come alive and help Dumbledore when he was fighting Voldemort at the Ministry. And no 'Weasley is our King'!?! I also expected more emotional impact when Sirius went through the veil. I loved Helena Bonham-Carter as Bellatrix, though.

Books are always better.
I saw it this weekend in IMAX-3D. I enjoyed the movie itself. However, I was a bit disappointed that the only part that was actually in 3D the final battle in the Ministry of Magic. Had I known that I probably would have gone to the regular theater.
