I live in France.It depends on the city you are travelling from in France.If you are say in Lille,Metz or Strasbourg,you are surely close to Germany.Since you don't know the city you will be leaving from in France as you did not mention it in your question,do this:

well as the two are bordering each other it can take as little as a second. Depending where your starting. I'll presume your starting from calais. that is 650km and will take roughly 6 hours
