Producers put up the money to make an album.

Executive Producers have some input into the actual record - especially is the EP is a member of the band.

I wondered the same thing and i actually only looked it up an hour ago. here is a small piece of an article from wikipedia.
In the music industry, a record producer (or music producer) has many roles, among them controlling the recording sessions, coaching and guiding the musicians, organizing and scheduling production budget and resources, and supervising the recording, mixing and mastering processes. This has been a major function of producers since the inception of sound recording, but in the later half of the 20th century producers also took on a wider entrepreneurial role. These activities comprise record production.

It seems like so many rappers are producer's now it makes you wonder if there is anything to the job. But they sure do a good job of it i guess.

They put together everything and make all the scheduling. Some even make the group, especially the singing group.
They hire the song writers, the studio crew, the advertisement people, the concert crew and sometimes find the people to put together to for a band. That allows the singers to just sing, the drummer to just hit the drums etc.
