You have to connect to the internet with a laptop the same as you would with a desktop.

You must either use a modem (dialup), Ethernet (DSL or Cable), or WIFI (wireless).

If your laptop is wireless ready it will be able to get onto the internet anytime it comes in range of an unsecured wireless connection.

An unsecured wireless connection is generally referred to as a "hot spot" and many cities have them all over the place. You can pick them up in some cafe's, bookstores, motels, etc.

If you have a High-speed connection at your home (DSL or Cable), you can install a wireless router and create your own hot spot. The wireless router will create a "bubble" about 300 feet across, and anyone who gets into the bubble will have access thru your router to the internet if they have wireless on their laptop. If you do this you can use your laptop out by the pool, or on the couch, anywhere inside the bubble

If you do not put a password into your router, anyone can get on your hot spot. If you do put in a password in you will have created a secured wireless connection, and only the persons who have your password can gain access.

In this instance, if you travel out of the bubble, you will loose your internet connection.

Many cell phone providers offer a special wireless card that allows you to get on their phone circuits with your laptop, even when you are not near a hot spot. This service generally costs around $60 a month for unlimited access anywhere on their cell phone network.

It this case you can drive down the road from city to city and always have wireless service, instead of having to locate an unsecured network.

If you are an internet mania and want an connection everywhere then better you also have a cell which has bluetooth with it and an enabled GPRS. Then it would be easier for you to either use your card/internal modem in parks etc or if modems aren't allowed, pair your mobile with the laptop, switch on GPRS and browse. GOOD LUCK!! It's better to have the HTC Touch or Nokia N Series. These are considered super for their best net services.

wireless companies (verizon, at&t, etc) have a plan that u can add to your current wireless plan which would enable you to have access to the internet anywhere u go. u would have to purchase a chip and install in your laptop/notebook. u will be able to use it on the plane, however, there are restrictions.

All you really need is a battery... For internet you would need it to be wifi equipped which all computers are nowadays. However, you would also need to be within range of a wifi signal.
