When a donation is made I do not expect special favors,

Why is this bribery by lobbies being tolerated?

Bribes must be considered illegal and threat of fine and imprisonment implemented when politicians are bribed and are accepting bribes in exchange of favors.

I was watching CSPAN and watch as a representative asked that congress aprove his company install the fence along our southern border the price tag was in the billions. It just didn't seem right the rep would be the recipient of the money he was asking from America. Where are the other bids?

Also the reason for the question on lobby is the bill is before the reps and rather than make it mandatory all contrabutions be anonymous with no strings attached they put a cap of 15,000 before it must be revealed. Oh and they will also be allowed to bribe the reps with jobs but they have to wait 2 years after they are in office.

Bribes as such are illegal and there are stiff federal penalties for offering or accepting them. That being said, there are always ways around this. Legal campaign contributions for politicians that suppport their agenda, business lunches where the lobbist picks up the tab, junkets where the lobbist finances a "fact finding trip". All are legal methods of bribing politicians. Additionally, there is nothing illegal about hiring them as consultants after they leave the government at inflated pay levels. Or even family members can be employed by them under certain conditions. Regardless, if a politician is willing to sell himself (and they all do) there will be a way found to make the payments legal.

Why would congress make it illegal to give them bribes? They are not going to hurt themselves like that. It's wrong, but that's the way it is. When all the fall out happened around Tom Delay, a few members of congress started trying to clean things up. They were stopped by others who did not want to loose their percs like lobbiest paid trips and meals.

A campaign contribution is not a bribe. Elected officials are not allowed to accept bribes. They are allowed to accept campaign contributions.

Because they don't call them bribes - it's all in how you write the rules of the game.
