Hopefully this is her 1st pregnancy. If so, she will take much longer to show, even if she is very thin. I am also very small and thin, but my first pregnancy didn't even start to show a little until I was 4 months. Once it started, I grew fast though. My 2nd pregnancy was noticeable at about 3 months and my last pregnancy was easily seen after only about 6 weeks. The muscles in her abdomen have not been stretched yet, so they don't know they have to do this for pregnancy. Her body will progress at its own pace. Her belly will be first noticed while laying flat on her back - a cute little hump will start to appear very low in the abdomen area. As the uterus gets larger, there are ligaments that support it that must stretch. There is sometimes a very short sharp pain associated with this growth. When she starts to feel this, she can rest assure she is getting bigger & will begin to show. Tell your friend congratulations and good luck.

There is no rule. Some people think that really skinny people will have really big tummies, but they may hardly show throughout their pregnancy. Others can look like they are ready to pop throughout! I started to show at about 5 months, which seems to be quite common. I also lost a little weight at the begining of my pregnancy...but I soon put it back on towards the end!!

Everyone is different and show at different times! Me, I show at 7 weeks! Always have ! I am 4 months and look 8 by most! I get huge in pregnancy, but not everyone does! I have a friend who did not show until 6 months! At her age, she may take time to show! This does not mean anything bad for the baby at all! As long as she eats healthy and takes prenantals, she is fine! She should be glad, more weight gain is more to loose! Best wishes to her!

Most show around 12 weeks, but every pregnancy is different. Losing weight can be a nasty side effect of morning sickness. Just make sure she's taking prenatal vitamins and trying to eat small meals frequently throughout the day (cuts down on the nausea).

I would say around 5 months or 22 weeks .
First trimester typical weight gain is 5 lbs.
Second is around 10-15 lbs.
Third is 10-30 lbs.
With my first I was 5 months before I was showing a little bit.
I was 103 lbs to start and gained 50lbs with him.
He was a big baby at 10 lbs.

I am 10 weeks and 3 days today and I am still not showing...I feel my belly is a little stretched and some pants don't fit anymore, my belly is growing little by little, but really, it doesn't show yet...My doctor said I will be showing when I'm 14-16 weeks....let's see...good luck to your friend and congrats on her big decision :) I think she is very courageous to have this baby at 16 yrs old...she is a strong woman.

I taught many teens and most showed at 6 mos. With strong muscles and tone of a teen you sometimes think they are gaining weight not pregnant if they camoflauge. You know for sure by 71/2 -8mos. Many were very good at hiding it with clothes etc. One gal wore a sweatshirt all the way up to the end because it camoflauged so well.

I didn't start showing until 16 weeks. I was 5'2 and 145 lbs. at beginning of pregnancy.
I agree the teen mothers on this site are really alarming and from the questions it seems like it will only get worse.

Probably not for a long time. I didn't start to show until I was 4 months and I was 16 too at the time.
