I think if there's any way I can afford to be there, I will! My guess is you'll pull off a great cup. Germany/Japan-Korea/France will be hard to compete with though, but I don't think you really have to compete with them.

I think its great. South Africa will become the first African country to host the tournament since it began and that has got to be good news, not only for South Africa but for sport all over Africa.

South Africa doesn't have the best of crime rates, you guys will drastically have to improve on that! At the moment everything is going according to plan so i am sure you guys will be great hosts! I am not a policewoman but maybe you need better CCTV cameras and maybe the government needs to spend money on the police force, maybe that will work!

2006 World Cup was a great success and i think organization was the key!

There may not be as many fans as there were in Germany because South Africa is pretty far from Europe and South America, and maybe people will not feel as safe in South Africa as they would in Germany.

Seeing as I don't live in South Africa,I'm seriously considering making the trip down there for the World Cup.

Of course you can host this event, you won your bid to do so,didn't you?? No worries, you'll get everything straightened out in time!!!!

Actually, the only worry I have is that it's gonna be so hot and people may get dehydrated easily. What a disaster it would be if some of the players got dehydrated or passed out because of heat exhaustion in the final!!! O-M-G!!!

As for the crime,I would say to hire and train more police officers....there is time,2 1/2 years is enough, right? And they could be of use after the World Cup as just normal police officers.

Good luck with everythingΩ

I think its really nice how Fifa chose South Africa to host the WC, other less priveleged countries should get a chance. For the crime problem, of course tourists will have to take more precautions then they would have had to do in Europe. If all the visiting fans act smartly and use common sense, I don't believe crime will be too big of an issue.

It is okay. It is bad for me because it is very far from me. It is the first time the world cup is there. They must be very happy.
They have spend a lot of money preparing them so it would be good for them and it is worth it. Anything for the World Cup.
I don't think there might be problems because It is the world cup and everyone likes it. Even here in US my teacher loves American football. During the World cup she was all into soccer.
Yes I believe it will be fixed, too. You are from SA which is the best thing that can happen to you. I wish I was you.

I think that it will be a success. There are always problems along the way, but I think that the government and fifa will be able to pull it off in the end. It is about time that africa has been given the oppurtunity to host the world cup.

sadly i think it will be taken away from south africa, or they will pull out much the same as columbia in 86. i dont think they have the infrastructure or the experience to host the tournament, plus crime is a serious worry for the authorities. if there are serious incidents involving locals and supporters, it will look so bad on FIFAS decision to go there, and will jeopardise any future tournaments in the african tournament. i know they hosted the rugby world cup in 95 but this is a whole differnt ball game, and sadly i dont think they are up to it

this is a serious problem that reflects upon FIFA's overall crapiness (including poor decision making)... i mean its great for South Africa ... but is this a wise choice? No. Germany was a huge success, much better than Korea/Japan. I would not mind if the WC went back to Germany for 2010.

I believe that the government of South Africa and FIFA want to avoid being embarrassed, so they will come together on this mutual interest and make the necessary improvements. Security has to beef up to encourage fans to come out. There will be great noise being made on the field by an African team (I'm thinking Nigeria) and it should once again be a grand party.

sorry.... surely S.A. is a beautiful place, but since the whole Africa is corrupted and poverty is everywhere... It might scare other people from other nations to be going to S.A. Esp. if they are from Asia (few years ago... an Asian family was basically massacred overnight b/c apparently they attracted ruthless and poor criminals with the restaurant business which they owned.) It might be a bit scary.... It will never be the level of quality which Germany provided. *sorry again*

But, hake! it's the WC. I'm sure that ppl will still go there. But... S.A. is VERY EXPENSIVE....

Just a note to all those people commenting on how hot it will be.
Do you realized that it will be winter in South Africa when the World Cup is staged???
