I was diagnosed with PCOS in April 07, my doctor has just precribed me Metformin to help regulate my cycle. She did not suggest i diet or exercise while taking the drug...
I'm not at all overweight (5'2 108lbs), so why is it adviseable i diet and exercise???? I am underweight, so if i diet i'll be loosing even more weight, i have a problem keeping my weight up in the first place, i seem to loose it very very easily so how would dieting help me? If i loose to much weight that is just a bad as gaining to much weight!
I don't have a problem with exercise, i do that anyways i'm a very energetic person..

To eat less carbs means cutting out things like white rice, white potatoes, pasta, white bread as a couple of examples. On the cutting of calories they mean that you cut your portion size of whatever you are eating back some.

But since you have no problems with your weight (that's an excellent weight by the way) I would definitely get back in touch with your doctor to discuss this further and ask why she put you on the Metformin. Ask her if she is putting you on it because of Insulin Resistance (the step before full-blown Diabetes).

There are some women with PCOS who do not have a weight problem. I've met a few other women like yourself.

I would definitely ask this doctor a lot of questions til you are satisfied with the answers you need to the problem. If she won't answer you on the issue then I would recommend getting another opinion and preferably from someone that does not share the same office with her.

A good site to check out about PCOS because of the discussion boards on there is at: http://www.pcosupport.org
