I can't do gardening because I can't be outside very long. I just bought it at Aldi's for $3.99. The soil was REALLY dry and I gave it some water.

What now?

try to keep it on the dry side. it is related to cactus , but needs more water than 2x a month. ..it is a succulent and needs water more like 1x a week. feed it a good fertilizer every other week in the spring and summer, and stop feeding in the fall and winter (water only) they like bright indirect light. Mine is 3 feet tall and about 2 feet around. I have had it a long time. it is on the floor in front of a sliding glass door that faces south with an oak tree outside.so, lots of sunshine all day, but not directly on it. any leaves that fall or break off can be stuck back in the soil and will root and form a new plant.... they are great plants..... Good luck with it.

I have a jade plant (now a large jade "bush" or tree) and when my cat was a kitten, he totally denuded it. There wasn't a leaf left on it and many of the branches were broken, too. I thought it was a goner, and considered making my cat a goner too, because he was such an insane little ninja boy when he was small. To make a long story short, the jade tree completely regrew its leaves and is still beautiful and the kitty has had an orchiectomy and is now civilized (mostly.) I keep my jade in a west window, water it every week (unless I forget. It's extremely forgiving.), and fertilize it w/ job sticks. You can control the size of the plant by how big the pot you're growing it in is allowed to be. The bigger the pot, the bigger the plant, and yes, you can prune it back severely and it will still live, thrive even. They are amongst my most favorite plants to grow, just b/c they are so forgiving and easy to live with.

Put it in a south window if possible. Fertilize with an all purpose plant fertilizer once a month. Let it get dry between waterings. Clip a few cuttings if your like, place them in water, roots will sprout in about 2 or 3 weeks and start other jades .Be sure the container has a drainage hole. Have fun.

Put it in a sunny window
The chubby leaves store water
You're greatest chance of hurting it is overwatering it.
So make sure the soil gets REALLY dry again before watering.
If the leaves get a little wrinkled, it's a little wilted so it's ready for water. You don't need to wait for wrinkled leaves to water but if you're scared of overwatering it's a safe bet.

The best advice I can give you about a jade is to not over-water it, you don't want it to drown. Let the soil dry out between waterings....

I water mine maybe once a month and it seems perfectly happy. Give it lots of indirect light, water it occasionally, and give it a good dusting every now and again and you will have a happy plant. You can only kill this plant with serious neglect or way too much water.
Good luck
