For about $1000 and less, what are some good brands of laptops. If you know a model # please feel free to share.

Fujitsu and HP seem like the best choices this summer. The HP dv6445us and Fujitsu a6020-021 are good in the 15" models. For 17" models, Fujitsu has a T7200 model that runs at 2GHz, with 2G memory and 200G disk.
A friend got a new Toshiba three weeks ago, and its instructions should win a "negligence in engineering" award. They don't tell you to create a system restore disk right away. (Could have saved my friend $80 for the quick trip to a repair shop.) And their tips for what to do if you have a problem with your system: Look on your computer for instructions. (Unfortunately they aren't alone in shipping a giant Catch-22 like this... If your system's down, good luck looking on the system for help.)

Here is what it breaks down to: Sony, HP, Toshiba, and Acer.
The sony vaio is expensive, but way worth the cash, same with Toshiba. HP is okay, I don't recommend it because of all the add-ons. But Acer is very cheap, and is really good. I have an Acer Aspire 5100 and it works like a dream, and I got it for 499-150 mail in rebate! You can get better ones, and they also have mail in rebates of about 100 or more.

4 $1000 the best laptop u can get is an apple macbook. the best windows based laptop is a lenovo (ibm). the best laptop however is the aple macbook pro.

I have an older model IBM that works really well, it's not fancy but it does what I need it to do. Dell and Gateway are both really nice too. Macs are always very nice, but they aren't compatable to some software.

the everex is a great laptop and you should take a look at them at wal mart or best buy
