I do not know that series. But I do know some really good authors for teenagers.
These are mostly science fiction/fantasy authors.
Tamora Pierce
Robin McKinley
Patricia C. Wrede
Patricia McKillip
Madeline L'Engle
Anne McCaffrey
I've read most of these author's books. I believe that in some ways they are better written and more interesting than some of what is written for adults these days. A book written for a teenager has to be well written or it will not hold their interest.
Tamora Pierce I particularly like. She has two series: Magic Circle and Tortall. They story lines are interconnected within each series. Best of all.....except for Briar (one of four main characters within the Magic Circle Series) most of her books have heroines as the main character.
Robin McKinnley is also very good. She has won numerous children's book awards.

I do not believe there are any "good" for teenage girl clique-like series...
I would say try the Xenogenesis series by Octavia E. butler. She was a great author and won many awards including the Hugo and Nebula. Her works deal with many issues that the clique books do (sexism, racial issues, identity issues) but at a slightly higher literary plane.
Here is a list of awards she won for her work:
2000: lifetime achievement award in writing from the PEN American Center
1999: Nebula Award for Best Novel - Parable of the Talents
1995: MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant
1985: Hugo Award for Best Novelette - Bloodchild
1985: Locus Award for Best Novelette - "Bloodchild"[9]
1985: Science Fiction Chronicle Award for Best Novelette - "Bloodchild"[10]
1984: Nebula Award for Best Novelette - Bloodchild
1984: Hugo Award for Best Short Story - Speech Sounds
1980: Creative Arts Award, L.A. YWCA

Well, I've never read that particular series, but she might enjoy the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It's followed by New Moon and Eclipse. She could also Try A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. All of these books rock!

ANY of the novels by Sarah Dessen. I personally enjoyed Someone Like You, This Lullaby, and The Truth About Forever the most.
I haven't read them, but I"ve heard the gossip girl series are good..
Also, she should broaden her reading. Classics- Jane Austen.
Fantasy- Philip Pullman
Other good authors: Mitch Albom, Nicholas Sparks, Dan Brown, Jack London, Mark Twain
