I had a baby two weeks ago my husband filled out paper work for FMLA leave for three weeks. I ended up having to have a c-section so he wants to take off six week now not three. Does anyone know if all he has to is notify the employer or do they have approve it? His work does not like him taking time off so they will probably not be nice about it.

He needs to notify them that he's taking his whole 6 weeks. My husband did the same thing.

I'm sure he has to notify them ASAP, and they may be more paperwork to slog through on the extension. I think legally speaking, employers have the right to require 30 days written notice, but like it or not, they can't deny it or fire him over it.

You are supposed to give ur job 30 days notice so let them know asap. they are flexible to an extent with medical issues. let them know there were complications.
