A bit like "Coals to Newcastle" is how it strikes me. There are plenty of gays in jail already. Now they want to encourage more homosexual behavior? I guess the "cavity search" gets the "foreplay" out of the way and they can get right to the buggering. What about the right of heterosexuals to not be exposed to such sick bastards? I have witnessed homosexual acts when I was in jail, and beleive me, nothing inflames more hatred of the system than being forced to observe some deviants do each other . And the smell? Nasty as nasty gets.

First, if hetero couples are allowed conjugal visits then of course gay couples should be allowed conjugal visits.

Second, I feel going to jail is punishment. Although it should also be a place for rehabilitation. I think if used properly conjugal visits could be a good tool to maintain peace and promote rehabilitation.

I don't think any conjugal visits should be allowed in any prison.. after all you are PAYING for a crime, not on vacation. But that wasn't the question. If they are allowing conjugal visits at all I don't see what the difference is. A lover is a lover is it not?

I'm skeptical since Mexico does not have a great human rights record regarding GBLT folks. I'd worry this is a way to identify other gays so they could be followed, assaulted or disappeared.
In North America or anywhere else, such a program would leave gays wide open to violence from other inmates. Being in jail is definitely a don't tell environment.

I don't see why not. These people are stuck in prison, missing the people they care about. I think it should be allowed. If straight people can visit their partners, why can't gays have the right to visit theirs?
