I think he has a good shot if he keeps it up at the pace he's in.

No. The all-time Yankee leader is Babe Ruth, at .349. Jeter's *best* season was .349, and his career average is .318. If he plays 8 more years, at 500 AB per season, he'd have to average .405 each season to pull his career average up that high. Impossible.

The benefit to Dimaggio is that he didn't have to go through the downturn of his career.

As Jeter ages, his career average will tend down. If he's not in the lead now, the liklihood of him being in the lead later on is slim.

maybe but what jeter will be is the leader of the all time hits in the Yankee record books that's a guarantee

No, not batting average. Days gone by the averages were higher, so Jeter doesn't have a good, fair shot.

Babe Ruth is the leader. .349. Joe D. is 3rd. Gehrig at .340 beats him, too.

What's his average now?

If he is hitting .333 now, you would assume that it will be the same or go down. You don't normally increase your hit total as you get older. Know what I mean?

It's not like homeruns. I mean, you have 400 homeruns and if you don't hit another you still have 400 career home runs. But batting average will drop if you can't get hits. It's not a set stat, so I don't see him getting the all time career batting average, just because it's hard to get hits as you get older.

Look for Jeter to have a run at the all-time MLB hit record. He's looking much more favorable for that.

no... his average would have to go up as he ages to catch up, which isn't gonna happen
