The Bowl is plastic, and has a ring of limescale around the top. How can I remove this without damaging him or the bowl, and without using vinegar.

I think that the safest and easiest way to rid yourself of this problem would be to get a new water dish. People's answers could be deadly to your leopard gecko, so that is what I'd do if I were you. But there are products out there, like lime-a-way (can be found at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BQU292/ref=nosim?tag=finishingcominc&link_code=as3&creative=373489&camp=211189 ), that get rid of the stuff and have instructions on how to use. Just be sure to rinse it out very very well! But it still could be toxic to the gecko, so I still suggest getting a new bowl.

i had the same problem with my frogs. what i did was....

i took out the dirty bowl and put in a temp one. then i soaked the bowl in like limeaway until the stuff started to come off when i scrubbed it. once the bowl was clean, i put it in really hot water and let it soak for a few hours. after 5 hours of soaking, i let out the water and put it in fresh water. after a day of soaking in clean water, the bowl was back in the frog's tank. if you want to, you could soak it for a few days. it'll be fine.

if u are really iffy about other people's cleaning advice and u r affraid that ur gecko will die, just get a new bowl. that's actually alot easier than cleaning it.

Take out the bowl entirely and put some limescale build-up product that should take it away, there are some non-toxic ones you can buy.

a million. attempt including dishwasing powder (Alkaline degreaser) to lavatory and upload some heat water {to velocity up reaction}, blend properly to do away with any oily action picture which may well be combating acid from dissolving lime. 2. Flush lavatory some situations then upload a million -2 cups of vinegar (this might do away with rust stains as properly) and a few heat water. go away for a million/2 hr then sparkling with lavatory brush & Flush Away Your problems ;-) good luck!

well, let me tell you that the commercial antiscale products are worse than vinegar. vinegar is just vinegar - acetic acid 8-10%, but in the other product you will have not only acetic acid, but hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, and god only knows what else and soap. so if you dont want to use vinegar, then forget about the others. i would use vinegar or citric acid, either pure, or commercial products that are based on organic acids (these two), NOT INORGANIC ACIDS (HYDROCHLORIC, PHOSPHORIC) not chlorine, because you need to rinse it out completely
