I'm trying to decide between a 15" Macbook Pro or a Dell 1520. I've priced both of them out to have the same specs. except that the Dell only goes up to a 2.2 ghz Dual-Core processor instead of the 2.4 which apple offers. I'm a college student majoring in Mass Communication Technology with a certificate degree in computer animation and graphic design. The Macbook costs more even with the student discounts but I've been having issues with my desktop PC lately so I'm wondering if the apple OS would be the better choice. On my desktop I'm running windows XP and on the Dell Inspiron the only OS they offer is Windows Vista, of which I'm very scepticle. Anyway I figure I'd also get an mp3 player to go with the computers also, an 80 GB ipod if I go with apple, or a 30 GB Zune if I go with Dell. Apple's financing is much better than Dell's, but again the Apple is about a $1,000 bucks more than the Dell, even with all the trimmings, taxes n' such. Let me know what you'd get. Thanks.

I think you should go with the Macbook pro. get the $2,000 one tho. The $2500 one is not worth the extra money.

It's nice to have the faster processor and such, but it really offers only marginal extra speed. Most people have found the upgrade not worth nearly the $500. In fact you could upgrade to 4 gigs of good 3rd part ram for less and probably have a better machine.

Anyway, I faced the same decision a month ago and I went with the macbook pro and haven;'t regretted it one bit. It was my first mac.

Also, macs get a free $200 rebate on an Ipod you purchase at the same time. Means you can get that $350 80gb ipod for $150. Together that is $400 off the system w/ the school discount.

I would go with the Dell and Zune. If you never owned an Apple Computer I wouldn't because you have to re-buy any software you own for the Apple Version. I wouldn't worry about Vista I have it and love it! The Zune in my opinion is better than the iPod as well in my opinion because it is more customizable and has better specs. The only downside is any software you might use for school might not work....probably will but it is a possibility. I just honestly prefer a Windows machine any day over a Mac. I really hope this helps and good luck!
