Dilute one part bleach with ten parts water in a spray bottle to sanitize kitchen counters.

"The Works" toilet cleaner is an effective chemical cleaner, especially for hard water. A nontoxic option, if the toilet is not very far gone, is distilled white vinegar.

For basic cleaning around the house, you can use many cheap products such as baking soda, vinegar, salt, club soda, vodka or rubbing alcohol, washing soda, and borax.

Look at your local library for books on green cleaning formulas. As an example, you can use straight club soda in a spray bottle to clean mirrors and glass.

A couple of book recommendations to start you off are:

"Green Clean: The Environmentally Sound Guide to Cleaning Your Home" by Linda Mason Hunter and Mikki Halpin;

"Clean and Green: The Complete Guide to Non-Toxic and Environmentally Safe Housekeeping" by Annie Berthold-Bond

A little bleach mixed with water in a spray bottle is good for cleaning and disinfecting alot of surfaces,plus it is cheaper than alot of products you can buy off the shelf at the store.You can use it to clean and disinfect your kitchen counter tops,floors.wall,bathroom,etc.Just be careful not to let it come in contact with fabrics that are not bleach safe.Yes you can clean your toilet with bleach as long as you don't use one of those in tank cleaners.Please be careful not to mix bleach with other products, it could be dangerous. Just pour alittle bleach in your toilet swish it around with your toilet brush and let sit a few minutes,swish again and flush.

Bleach works to kill the germs, but can leave a musty odor behind. Go to your local $ store and get "The Works". This is the best thing for cleaning showers and toilets. Get the tub cleaner. Their regular toilet cleaner is really strong, so you have to wear gloves and have the bathroom well ventilated.

Bleach is a great cleaner, but it can ruin surfaces...not to mention the clothes you're wearing when using it. I prefer a spray bottle with vinegar and water...cleans EVERYTHING!!..not to worry...the smell disappears after a bit..your house won't smell like a salad forever

For the toilet...just drop in a denture cleaning tablet......
