Do they feel they are above the law? Is it for political gain?
I am specifically speaking about the subpoenas that they have issued recently that they know are contrary to well established law.

To put on a show and waste more money. The longer they can drag this out, the better they 'think' they look.

It's merely to make the administration look bad. They're obviously trying to win an election.

Issueing subpoenas is well within their authority. As for established law, well, there certainly is no mention of "executive privilege" in the constitution. It didn't prevent congress from obtaining White house documents in the Clinton or Nixon cases. Why would it suddenly apply now?

If they have nothing to hide, and have done nothing wrong, why should they object to testifyinf under oath. After all, they always have their constitutional fifth amendment rights to fall back on.

The American people deserve answers, and the White House feels it's above the law, and that's the long and short of it.

They have no cause to issue subpoenas. Just like in common law, there must be evidence to get a search warrant. There is no evidence. They want to create a crime where none exists by trapping someone into committing perjury because their recollection of events may not agree with someone elses. Could you remember every detail of a meeting that occurred 4 years ago. Would others at the meeting remember the same details? I think not. The congress is phishing, wasting our tax dollars and time when they should be working on tax reform, social security, and other things that efect the lives of every American.
Regarding the Clinton Investigations- he committed a crime, he lied to the courts "I did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky" There was evidence to prove he lied. Evidence=subpoena

Isn't it crazy? I don't have a clue what the party is thinking or where they are getting their leadership skills from but we need a working congress and senate!!! A real one cause we have real issues we need to have adressed. The only thing these two groups are doing is investigations and more investigations! When they don't get their answer they do more! They are spending so much tax payers money on these endless deadend investigations instead of actually accomplishing anything!!

Wow, this is like the 23rd time this topic has been brought up.

Ask Arlen Specter what he thinks about it. Because...well...the republicans agree with the democrats on the Gonzales issue!
This isnt a left-right issue, its an executive brance vs legislative branch issue.

When your own team calls you out at the plate, youre out!

There is bi-partisan agreement that the White House is wrong and that Gonzales has lied in his testimony.

I mean Pat Buchanan for crying out loud agrees that the White House is wrong and Gonzales needs to go. Does Ann Coulter have to tattoo on her forehead to get the point across?

This was ALL OVER the news on Sunday but apparently no one on this board bothered to tune in. I guess it wasnt on Fox News...go figure.

"have issued recently that they know are contrary to well established law. "

no it isn't, how can you conclude this??

congressional oversight is directly implied by the powers granted to congress by the constitution

Actually, the subpoenas are well within the established law, so what are you talking about?

I wish they would stop wasting their time with this and get to the bigger problems. On the other side of this. If the prez didn't block these people from testifying it would be done and over with. Gonzales is looking pretty lame. Sorry.
