Could you please let me know what words such as Cromerty and Dogger refer to or mean in the shipping forecast?

I sometimes have to listen to the shipping forecast on 198 longwave when it rudely interupts the cricket coverage. Whilst listening I often hear Cromerty and Dogger mentioned among other wierd references. Could you please describe their meaning plus any other regular references refered to in these forecasts. Thanks very much.

those are place names, referring to the weather in that vicinity
