If their is a no major shake-ups in current theories we can make some guesses. In this century we'll see a major move into space. Tourism and mining will replace science and communications as the major uses for space. Once the first couple of space elevators are built things will accelerate fast. That's probably less than 30 years away.
Once the inner solar system is conquered, I believe, we'll start looking seriously at sending probes to other solar systems. So you looking at about a 150 years or so. What these probes find will answer the final question. When will a person go? If we find a planet with herds of big animals and little green men run around, you can bet a flurry of missions will be heading that way. If we find a bunch of rocks, it could take centuries to bother sending a mission.
In you want to pick a number out of my hat, I'll go with 350 years. Hope to see you there.

I think our first successful manned voyage to another solar system will begin between 200 and 500 years in the future. It will be a slower-than-light voyage.
Since nobody knows if faster-than-light travel (using space-warping shortcuts) is possible or not, I have to give this a 50% probability of ever occurring. If it does occur, it will be more like several thousand years in the future, as the amounts of energy that would be required are extreme.

Personally I believe it will be in the next 100 to 200 years. Reason being 100 years ago we were just concurring the skys now we are building space stations and sending probes to ever place in the solar system. We are making achievements by leaps and bounds. I mean think of it computers are obsolete after 2 years (sometimes less)

I hope mankind survives the next WW so that space travel is possible!
It seems more and more that mankind is moving socially backwards faster than its moving intellectually ahead. I often wonder if there will be a civilization left after what feels like it is brewing...
