I need to make some white pants, but have been unsuccessful in finding white not-see-through material for them.
If anyone has a specific material that might be worth looking in to, I'm all ears.
However, if you know a technique or the like that could fix my see-through problem, that would be just as good.

Thanks!

Hi:

I second the lining idea. Instead of lining, you could also just get a thinner secondary fabric, and use it under your primary fabric, but instead of a lining, just treat it like part of the over fabric. For example, I've read about creating pants from silk dupioni - a fabric that can be used as an underlining fabric is flannel. If you're making pants for summer wear, you probably won't want to use felt, but you could probably find a lighter weight fabric to use, or just double your primary fabric and maybe that could work out for you.

I think some of the most interesting fabrics are sheer - that quality can be used to create some very interesting effects when the sheerness is accentuated. For example, you could underline your white fabric in a color like royal blue or a striped fabric.

You might check out some of the book and resources from Sandra Betzina, or Palmer and Pletsch information.

Hope this helps.

Sure!! I learned to do all the fancy seaming before they let me have a pattern to cut and sew! And I did my entire wardrobe by hand before my grandmother inspected one of my garments - heavy wool cape with hand stitched heavy double zipper!! Then she bought me an inexpensive sewing machine for that Christmas. Yes, just get the pattern and the fabrics, cut half the pattern from black and half from white. There is one pattern where half the front and back are one piece, so that would give you only the leg length and the crotch joining to seam up. then the casings for elastic or draw string and the hems. Look at the pattern books at Hobby Lobby, Micheals, Joanns, etc to find what you are looking for.

I would use a white linen as this would be less transparent than other materials.

You could then either line them, or wear a trouser slip (slip in the shape of trousers) under the pants. These are available in mose lingerie departments

The best way of preventing show through that I have seen is using silk organza as an interlining - you just treat it like the main fabric. Do not use polyester organza as it is very hot but silk seems to be great.

Any bottomweight fabric will work, and even some broadcloth. Just put your hand behind the fabric to see if you can see skin.

White denim or try lining them.
