Does anyone have any idea if you can replace this part yourself and if so how difficult is it? My key gets stuck in the ignition and is difficult to turn over and someone said it was the relay switch. Does this sound correct or is it something else?

Sounds to me that you are talking about the solenoid that allows the key to turn all the back to the off position. This is controlled by a switch on the shifter which is more likely the cause of one of your problems. It is very hard to determine what it is wrong as your description has two different problems which may or may not be related. There is also a possibility of the ignition cylinder being worn out. When the truck acts up, you will have to pull it apart and find what is causing the condition(s). If you don't know too much about air bags and steering columns, I would leave it for someone who does. Good luck.

I have no ideal what the last guy was rambling about but it is called a ignition tumbler and no it is not hard to replace but you do need to remove the air bag and steering wheel then remove the steering column covers to access the tumbler retainer pin it is on the top of the tumbler housing just use a small punch to push down then with the key in the ignition and in the run position pull out ......"when i was referring to the tumbler it is the part the key goes into and turns

Before you go tearing into your steering column go to your local Chevy dealer and get a key made from the numbers, or get the numbers, and get a locksmith to make a new key for it from the numbers. The reason being your key may be worn out, and causing problems.

Though I don't find taking steering columns apart difficult anymore I will still do what I can to avoid it.
