a recent article said that only 1% of people actually call the cops or do something when a car alarm goes off.. are you part of the 99% that ignores the alarm or do you actually help people when they cry for help?

I'll duck and carefully look out the window. If it's a real crime and the person see's me looking at them, I would be scare out of my pants!

A cry for help is different than a car alarm.
If I heard a person crying for help, I'd certainly call the cops or rush to help.
Those dumb car alarms go off when nothing is happening. A loud stereo or a truck rumbling by can set one off. I think because of that fact, most people have gotten used to ignoring them.
When I hear a car alarm, I certainly look outside. If I ever saw someone obviously breaking in, I'd call the cops. I can't justify calling the police, however, when I just hear one going off and don't see anything going on.

I do not call the cops because some people just set it off to find their cars in parking lot, when it is in front of the home i would look out my window to see what is going on, but half the time it is from vibration, kids bumping into the car all kinds of crazy things, the cops are too busy and the alarms are annoying

I think the only time everyone actually cared when a car alarm went off was the 1st week they came out! After that no one even looks anymore! I know that I don't really care when an alarm goes off, but if it is close to me, I at least glance over, just in case.

Car alarms are only good for ONE thing: annoying your neighbors when it goes off because another FA-18 flew over and set it off (this happened to a neighbor until he disconnected the blasted thing!). No one does ANYTHING about car alarms (like call the cops!). What a waste of money!

Car alarms are so annoying. Usually I just get angry that there is one going off, and I wish people would make it stop. I don't know why anyone would do anything, since it's almost always a false alarm.

Only if it keeps going for a long time - that's just annoying.
I'd imagine the incidence of car alarms going off because of theft is rather low.
I always check to make sure people are okay if I hear a scream or cry for help.

I put the pillow over my head and pray for it to stop. Those damn car alarms always go off in the middle of the night.

Sometimes alarms may set off from accidents, becuase some alarms go off from touch only. Therefore, sometimes it could just be false alarms.

I just wish it would stop. Too many false alarms to call the cops.
