The BEATLES, without question. Not that the Rolling Stones are bad. But considering overall musical talent, influence, and style the Beatles come out on top....hands down.

Even when both bands were playing in the same 'time' they were very 'different' kinds of music ... basically 'rock' but still 'a world apart' ... then the Beatles 'broke up' and went on to separate careers, but the Stones are still together, and even though they are all now 'officially senior citizens' they can get a FOOTBALL STADIUM with seating on the field ROCKING ... so I'd have to say that as a 'BAND' the Stones rule, but as INDIVIDUALS the Beatles rule.

Except for brief surges of interest in the Stones, the Beatles get consistently about 50% more search traffic on Google:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=Beatles%2C+%22Rolling+Stones%22
In terms of online listening habits (http://www.last.fm/music/+charts/artist/), the Beatles rock the charts at #1, while the Rolling Stones are way down at #39.
Of course, musical taste varies from consumer to consumer, and I would much rather have the entire discography of the band Yes on my desert island than to have BOTH collections of the Beatles and the Stones!
