Well Texeira is a great player...but the Rangers got something EVERYONE needs or is going to need. Saltalamachia!
He's a good young catcher and there isn't much of those now a days. I didn't want him to go anywhere before off season because I wanted the Red Sox to go after him then. So it will probably have a good effect.

The Rangers had to get something for him while he was playing there because after next season he is a free agent. The Braves don't have the kind of money to re-sign him so giving up a couple of prospects and a young catcher is decent on both sides. Tom Hicks learned a lot from having signed A-Rod to the $250 million contract when he left Seattle so he realized the best thing to do was to get some prospects and get that contract off of his books. Just look for Baltimore to be a big player in getting Texiera during the off season of 2008

Getting rid of A-ROD was supposed to help the Rangers as well, but we all know how they have done since. There is not much they can do unless start rebuilding around a core of young guys and stay committed. They need to rebuild from within the organization. Look at the Braves and the Tigers for example.

The Rangers got a steal in this deal. Rumor has it that Teixiera turned down an 8 yr-$120 million deal, implying he didn' t want to stay anyway. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is a future superstar!!! A 6'4", 235 lb, switch hitting, power hitting, rifle armed 22 yr catcher. He may be the better than Pudge!! As a Braves fan, I really hated to see him go.

Surprisgnly it looks like this trade, the trade of Gagne and the benching of Sosa sends the Rangers into a yet another cycle of rebuilding. theyve had so many stars through the last decade. Pudge, Juangone, Hank Blalock, Mark Texiara, ARod, Alfonso Soriano, Kenny Rogers, etc........

Mark is a great hitter. He's an O.K. fielder but I think it depends who they trade for. To make it a good effect on the Rangers they need a Power Hitting 1st baseman. The rangers backup isn't the best. To make it a bad affect they would aquire a 3rd baseman or shortstop.

Trade looks like a win/win for both teams. Tex is in the NL, rather than playing for a competitor. Salt has great upside potential, couldn't play every day with McCann in front of him. Rangers couldn't sign or afford Tex, looking to start over without him, Lofton, Gagne, Sosa is next to go. Start to assemble a young nucleus, but it will take a few years and some players to catch the Ms and Angels.

A good effect, but not right now. They god two good prospects in Salty and Andrus. I dont know the other guys involved but I heard the Braves gave up their top 3 or 4 prospects. So yes, good for Texas in a few years. Teixiera was not THAT good.

I can't forsee how adding Tex-err-ia (actual pronunciation) to a current lineup hurts. Oh wait, you were wondering about the Rangers. Trading a proven star for talent is a crap shoot. Always has been, always will be.
